Sophia & Freddie
Sophia and Freddie met on a ski trip in Val d’Isère in 2018, on the last night, in the queue for a taxi neither of them ended up taking. They married four years later on a Saturday in June at a converted barn outside Petworth, with a hundred and fifty people, an eight-piece from Brighton who did not stop until three, and a marquee that leaked steadily on one side all evening and which nobody mentioned until the morning.

The dress
Monique Lhuillier cut the “Tivoli” for her 2022 collection in Italian silk duchesse: a boned corselet under a bateau neckline that sits just off the shoulder, and a skirt of eleven metres that holds its own architecture without a hoop beneath it. It was the quietest dress of a loud season: no lace, no illusion, no beading anywhere but the shoulder seam.
Why I’m letting it go
“It’s been in a box under the spare bed for three years and every time I move house I unwrap it, look at it, and wrap it up again. It should be on someone. It’s not doing anything under there except being expensive.”
Hemmed for a 76mm heel, with 6cm of allowance left. The closer a shoe sits to that height, the less has to be altered.
Satin answering satin. The skirt is eleven metres of duchesse, so it will carry a 105 without looking overdressed.
Closest to the 76mm this was hemmed for. The safest of the three if the hem is left alone.
A plain pointed toe for a bride who wants the dress to do all of it.
Suggestions only. We do not sell shoes and we are not affiliated with any footwear brand.
Reserve a fitting and we will hold this gown off sale for you. Alterations are arranged after purchase, with our tailor, once the gown is yours. We don’t cut a dress that isn’t.
